Terms of Service

The ground rules

Plain-English terms for using Hearth. Last updated May 2026.

Hearth is not a therapist, not a medical device, and not an emergency service. If you are in crisis, call 988 (US), 999 (UK), 112 (EU), or your local emergency number immediately.

Wellness disclaimer

Hearth is an AI wellness companion, not a substitute for professional mental health treatment, medical care, or emergency services.

Hearth does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any medical or psychiatric condition. Hearth does not prescribe medication and should never be used to self-medicate.

The AI's responses are generated, not clinically supervised. They may contain errors or outdated information. Always consult a licensed professional for medical, psychiatric, or legal matters.

If you are in crisis, call 988 (US), 999 (UK), 112 (EU), or your local emergency number. Hearth is not an emergency service.

Using Hearth

You must be at least 18 years old to create a parent account. Children under 18 may use Hearth only under a parent-managed account.

You agree to use Hearth for personal, non-commercial wellness support. Automated scraping, resale, and integration with third-party services without permission are prohibited.

You are responsible for the accuracy of information you provide. Do not share another person's private information without consent.

We reserve the right to suspend accounts that violate these terms, abuse safety systems, or harm other users.

Billing & subscriptions

Free accounts are free forever. Plus and Family subscriptions are billed through Stripe and renew automatically until cancelled.

You can cancel at any time through Profile → Billing → Manage Subscription. Cancellations take effect at the end of the current billing period.

Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis. Contact [email protected] within 30 days of charge for review.

Voice minutes reset each billing cycle. Unused minutes do not roll over.

Children's accounts

Children under 13 cannot create accounts independently. A parent creates the account via the Family dashboard and shares an invite code.

The child sets their own password; the parent does not have access to the child's login.

Parents see summary insights (mood trends, themes, strengths, safety events) — not raw conversation transcripts.

Teens (13–17) may enable teen-privacy mode, which restricts parent visibility to safety alerts only.

By creating a child's account, you represent that you are that child's parent or legal guardian and you consent to Hearth processing the child's information as described here and in our Privacy & Safety page.

Account deletion & data rights

You may export all your data as JSON from Profile → Your Data → Download.

You may permanently delete your account and all associated data from Profile → Your Data → Delete. Deletion is immediate and irreversible.

Deleting a parent account also deletes all linked child accounts and their data.

Requests sent to [email protected] for data access, correction, or deletion will be honored within 30 days.

Limits of liability

Hearth is provided 'as is,' without warranties of any kind, express or implied.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any harm caused by reliance on Hearth's responses.

Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $100, whichever is greater.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot legally be limited (e.g. gross negligence or willful misconduct).

Changes & contact

We may update these terms occasionally. Material changes will be announced by email and in-app. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
